How a Commission Works
Every Luz de Vidro piece is created slowly, collaboratively, and with deep attention to light, space, and meaning.
I accept a limited number of commissions each year to ensure each work receives the time and care it deserves.
1. Initial Conversation
We begin with a thoughtful exchange about the space, the architecture, the quality of light, and your intentions for the piece.
This may happen in person or remotely and is a chance to explore ideas, references, and practical considerations without pressure.
2. Concept & Design
From this conversation, I develop a bespoke design proposal tailored specifically to your project.
This may include sketches, colour studies, glass selection, and an overall visual direction that responds to both the building and its atmosphere.
Design is a dialogue — your input shapes the work, while my role is to guide what will function beautifully in glass.
3. Craft & Fabrication
Once the design is approved, the piece is handcrafted in my Alentejo atelier using traditional stained glass techniques.
Each panel is cut, painted where required, leaded, soldered, and finished by hand — a process that cannot be rushed.
This stage typically takes several weeks, depending on scale and complexity.
4. Installation
The completed work is installed on site or delivered in coordination with your architect, builder, or contractor.
Care is taken to ensure the glass integrates seamlessly with the surrounding structure and light conditions.
